Ensol Biological Sewage Treatment

Ensol-5000 is a concentrated Bio-Stimulant for use in the Waste Water treatment industry to eliminate odour and break-down organic solids on an industrial scale. Now used in many Countries by Municipalities and City's around the world to treat human and animal effluent, to eliminate odour and hydrogen sulphide gas. UPDATE ON THE ISLAND SEWAGE PLANT
This report is for information purposes only and regards an update on the way that the Island sewage plant now operates. Late last year, I was made aware by one of the hotel operators that a new product was on the market and they had been using it with very positive results in their own sewage system. The product is known as Ensol 5000, a totally safe and environmentally friendly liquid, which is added to an existing sewage system with an electronically timed controlled drip feed. This can be administered through a sink or directly into the sewage tanks. Most sewage systems on Sark are anaerobic (meaning the liquid and solids are dead, hence the smell). Ensol 5000 enables the system to become aerobic, creating a live situation, eradicating smell, and eventually removing/eating old grease and solids. I felt this would be a positive way forward for our own Island system and, with the help of the local (Sark) agent took proposals forward to the Douzaine. It looked upon the idea very positively and as a consequence the system was put in place at the Island sewage plant earlier this year, with excellent results. Some of the electronic pumps have now been turned off, the heater that operated on tank three has now been turned off and is no longer required. This has resulted in good financial savings, which will continue to be cut as the process improves with use. Many years of life have been added to the plant itself. It is not generally known that the life of the plant was very quickly coming to an end and very soon would have cost many hundreds of thousands of pounds to replace. I have since put the agent in touch with other commercial establishments on the Island who I am pleased to say are using the product, again with excellent results. It is hoped that in the near future many more commercial establishments and private households alike will start to use Ensol 5000 with huge environmental advantages for the Island. It is a noteworthy fact that Sark, as a self-governing body, is the first state in Western Europe to use the product on its own system, something of which it can be proud. Technical explanation of how Ensol-5000 can transform your waste water plant and make huge savings!

Ensol's proprietary blend of ingredients stimulates the naturally-occurring bacteria that digest waste and eliminate its odours. Ensol oxygenates the environment in order to keep feeding those micro-organisms. The result is the prevention of hydrogen sulphide and its malodorous by-product, hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S).

ATTACKING HYDROGEN SULPHIDE.

Wastewater typically contains high levels of sulfate ions and low levels of oxygen. Without a source of oxygen, anaerobic bacteria feed on these sulfate ions and dominate. This process results in the formation of dissolved hydrogen sulphide that remains in the liquid as dissolved sulphide's and hydrogen sulphide gas (H2S). In order to eliminate hydrogen sulphide, the sulphide ion must be destroyed. The most effective solution is to: Lower the levels of sulfate that feed anaerobic bacteria: Provide an oxidant source to the facultative and aerobic bacteria: Provide a carbon source to stimulate the rapid growth of bacteria. Ensol-5000 is the only product that effectively delivers a comprehensive solution to the problems associated with hydrogen sulphide in waste-water - without the limitations in performance, cost or safety typical of other products.

SCIENTIFICALLY FORMULATED INGREDIENTS.

The product contains a specially formulated blend of calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate and ammonium nitrate. Each of these compounds forms a nitrate ion, which provides an oxidant source for aerobic bacteria. When oxygen levels are very low, which is typical in wastewater, normally aerobic bacteria and facultative bacteria can get their oxidant from nitrate. This is not necessarily the addition of oxygen. Instead the oxidation process requires that for the sulphide ion to be 'oxidised' an ion must be present to 'accept' the electron lost by the sulphide ion. Therefore, the nitrate ions serve as an electron acceptor in the oxidation pathway of aerobic and facultative bacteria in an anaerobic environment.

CALCIUM.

The calcium ion, when added to typically high sulphide wastewater, will precipitate out calcium sulfate which lowers the concentration of the sulfate ion and deprives anaerobic bacteria of their oxidant source. Combined with the addition of the nutrient source for oxidation of facultative and aerobic bacteria, this compound plays an important role in ensuring that the aerobic bacteria out-compete the anaerobic bacteria. Calcium is also a source of nutrition for cell development in bacteria.

AMMONIUM.

The ammonium ion is an important building block for cell nutrition and growth. It contributes to the rapid growth of the microbial population and can also function as an electron donor in the respiratory path of aerobic bacteria.

POTASSIUM.

Potassium is a key building block for cell nutrition and growth. The potassium ion is an integral part of the unique formulation that provides for the overall health of the aerobic bacteria.

CARBON SOURCE.

Microorganisms such as bacteria require a carbon source for protein synthesis. Ensol's proprietary formula provides a source of dissolved nutrients for the facultative and aerobic bacteria that use nitrate as their respiratory oxidant. This effectively stimulates the rapid growth of the desired aerobic bacteria.
