Wessex Water urges caravan owners to pitch green

A LETTER FROM WESSEX WATER TO CARAVAN OWNERS.

The letter below is a request by a major water company for caravan owners to switch from the traditional poisonous toilet chemicals to the new environmentally safe ones such as BioMagic and other green treatments. This is what we have been saying for ages, that the poisonous ones are damaging not only the environment but the waste water treatment infrastructure as well. Thank you Wessex Water for bringing this to our customers attention. Sonia Notman. BioMagic UK Ltd.

Caravan owners urged to pitch green this bank holiday

26 August 2009

Outdoor enthusiasts are being urged to make one essential change to their kit bag to preserve the environment this bank holiday weekend.

Wessex Water is asking caravan owners in the region to consider switching to an environmentally friendly portable toilet cleaner to reduce carbon emissions.

The Company said although conventional chemical based cleaners effectively killed bacteria in toilets, they went on to kill bacteria vial to the sewage treatment process.

Pete Coombs from Wessex Water, said the region is hugely popular for caravanning and the company wanted to ensure the large number of visitors did not impact on the environment.

He said " Several small treatment works around the region receive a high proportion of their flow from caravan parks and camping sites.

On occasions our assets performance is affected by chemical toilet sanitary products which require significantly more energy and cost to break down."

Research by the National Centre for Environmental Toxicology found alternative 'environmentally friendly' and 'chemical free' products BioMagic and Exodor bio-Pak were less harmful to the sewage treatment process.

Pete added: "I strongly recommend caravan owners and individuals who run campsites to switch to using these safe, clean and environmentally friendly products to help protect the environment this bank holiday."
